A Stellar Quality Of Life Fix (That Works For 90% Of The Game)

Written by: Andrewskey - July 6, 2025

Being able to recharge your weapons after death when difficult levels/bosses need half and/or full ammo of specific weapons to be completed is one of the quintessential changes necessary for reducing frustration in revisiting older Mega Man titles in the modern day. Now bosses like the Yellow Devil and Boobeam for example give the player more lenience in fighting them without resetting the stage if they have the lives to spare.

Alongside addressing these level roadblocks based on ammo counts, weapons are also encouraged to be used more in a level since the new changes to how death works in this game allows further experimentation on using multiple items without the brutal punishment of before if ammo counts weren't meticulously managed.

The only levels I have found this hack does not work with is Wily Fortress 3 in the Mega Man 3 campaign and the Mega Water S level, locking myself out from trying the other stages in the Wily Fortress/Tower that require beating the former two levels to progress. While this would be potentially annoying for people looking to properly complete all the campaigns, I think the work shown thus far works wonders in the Mega Man 1 & 2 campaigns enough for people to try them as is alongside other Wily Wars hacks (which this patch is compatible with). Patches like these will surely help other people get past the aged annoyances that they may have had from trying these great games before.
