Could have been internal issues with headers, or some other data difference due to version numbers or whatnot. Checking the filename is a good idea if you're in a rush. However, the hashes are great for verification.
I didn't really understand what you meant so I Google search the information in the download section hash info and manage to find a game and the hash matched so I tried that and that worked I just don't know why three different ROM sites did not have the correct ROM two of them would open up and glitch immediately one of them would just go black screen it wouldn't work at all don't get why I tried three different sites and I couldn't get a good ROM and I couldn't find any other ROM sites but when I Google searched it I found some other way to get it
I'm not sure exactly what that means I downloaded the Mega Man for NES and I downloaded the IPS file and I patched it is there something I'm missing here that I don't quite get what you're saying about checking the has to make sure it's the same number as indicated not exactly sure what that means I put my game Into the hash and it had information and numbers and I don't know what any of that means
I tried with the ROM indicated on the Nestopia UE emulator and had no problems. Check that your ROM has the same hash as the one indicated on the entry.
I already posted a comment for some reason it didn't get uploaded I cannot get this game to work I've tried tons of different ips tools and I've done tons of other ROM hacks like this with no problems I spent hours trying different tools thinking maybe it was the emulator so tried a few different emulators still the same problem the main screen will load up but then as soon as I hit start it glitches screen looks funny then goes black every different way I've tried to do the game have the same thing happen I even used the ROM Patcher on here figuring I'd get different results and I do not the file doesn't even change size it just changes the name it says patched at the end of it is this a US Castlevania or something is there something I'm missing i downloaded several different Castlevania ROMs still will not work I attached a picture of what it's doing when I hit start before it goes black can somebody please help me
Tried to do a comment with a picture but did not work so I made a new comment but I don't know how to delete this one
I'm aware of the checksum that Billy listed on the page, but the hash for the nointro rom of the game is different. Multiple sources also show the hash for the game shows CRC-32: A5D29735. So it might be that Billy has listed an incorrect hash for the rom.
The online patcher on romhacking.net has those features; hash checking and checksum fixing. Is there a way to get those features into the online patcher here? The checksum errors usually happen when you try to combine hacks for MD/Gen games. They'll sometimes redscreen unless you fix the checksum after applying subsequent hacks after the first one.
Ben is right about the hash and the correct ROM being applied to the correct patch, but in some cases the author is unaware or lazy and doesn't realise that after they make there changes to a ROM, the ROM knows it's been tampered and alarms the checksum routine that something is different and displays that red screen. This is why all authors and hackers should make sure the checksum is fixed before they release their work so the downloaders only need to download and patch.
The online patcher (unless it's a BPS file) doesn't check the hash, so it's up to you to pay attention to the hash of your ROM compared to the one provided by the author. The online ROM Hasher allows you to check your values. There should be no red screen problems if the ROM is identical.
It seems like the Online ROM Patcher doesn't do checksum fixes for MegaDrive/Genesis games so it sometimes causes the games to have a red screen after patching. Also, the hash check doesn't seem to display whether or not it's the correct hash according to the hack's page.
