Bubble Bobble – Colorful World came about because I spend a lot of time playing it with my kids and thought I’d make it as cute and colorful as I could. A big part was replacing the black background and as a result to take design cues from Bubble Bobble 2 in making characters and items read well on-screen without black as a natural border.
Weasel’s Bubble Bobble Madness sprites were used as basis for many of the characters and items. Some sprites remain almost unchanged while others were extensively modified or are altogether separate.
Special thanks to Develon way back in 2022 for helping me playtest the ENTIRE game (over 100 levels!) and RayofJay for fixing the issues I had with the background reverting to black at times (thank you!).

In case you’re not aware there is a colorful sequel to Bubble Bobble called Rainbow Islands. You still play as Bubby and Bobby but they’re human now and shoot rainbows. Sounds like your kids might like it.
