Rockman ABNormality is an ambitious hack from the mid-late 2000s that changed just about everything from the base game: music, levels, graphics, enemies, hazards, Robot Masters, weapons and even the Items. It also added new gimmicks like vertical Force Beams, an auto-scroller section and Rush Jet.

The project was left abandoned on September 26, 2008. As of 2026, the original author of ABNormality, MK2, is missing in action (impossible to contact). However, 17 years later, their hack was rediscovered by a Chinese hacking team and completed as a fan revival.

Led by MagnetFirstBro, this team would fix bugs, finish the incomplete stages, update the soundtrack, modify the unfinished bosses and add new weaknesses. On July 24, 2025, this fan revival was sent to Twitch streamer CasualTom for him to play on his channel. 6 months later, Tom created an IPS patch of the fan-made project after a couple of viewers requested it, archiving it in the Mega Man Romhacking Discord server. Until now, it remained buried in the “releases” channel of that server.

In this Romhack Plaza reupload, I only made 2 changes, but just enough to polish the gameplay a little bit:

• Flash Man’s damage from the Buster has been changed from 01 to 03 to make his battle less frustrating.
• In the original version of the revival, there was an advertisement on the 4th screen of Wily 6 that promoted the team’s upcoming Rockman 3 hack. I removed this so that it doesn’t detract from the experience, and the focus is put entirely on MK2’s reimagined project.

Tips & Tricks

• Road Runner can’t pass through terrain like Metal Blade does, but it can pass through semi-solid platforms like the ones in Air Man’s stage.
• Javelin can be shot at an upward or downward angle.
• Blocky can now take damage from any part of its body.
• The toxic water/rain gimmick in Bubble Man’s stage doesn’t kill you outright, but it leaves you at 1 HP.
• Rockman Phantom can destroy shielded enemies like Mets and Sniper Joes.
• If you hold B while Maple Twister is equipped, it will behave like Skull Barrier from Rockman 4.
• If you’re having trouble fighting a Robbit, use Road Runner if you have it. It destroys them in 3 hits.
• When you enter the Boobeam Trap room, go to the far left, tap the right arrow button slightly so that Rockman faces the opposite direction, make a save state and charge Riot Lighter for around 2 seconds. This will allow a single shot to travel far enough to destroy all the Boobeams, but the hit detection is erratic. If you perform this trick, you will have just enough ammo to leave Flash Man at 2 HP in his rematch.
