Description

A complete translation of Captain Tsubasa VS. from Japanese to English. Apply to an unmodified Japanese ROM and enjoy! Featuring:

  • Full Story Mode in English

  • VS. Mode

  • 2P Link Cable Mode

  • Fixed errors, inconsistencies, and QOL changes (e.g. the Face Volley changed to Face Header)

  • Custom Graphics for English Logos

There are actually 2 versions of the hack included in the .ZIP, the "All-Star" version translates every character's name, even minor players on the opponent's team that don't have any graphics or special moves. However, the normal version instead has it how it is in Captain Tsubasa 1 or 2, where these minor players are instead referred to by their position, making the game more intuitive to play. However, if in the VS. mode, you decide to choose an opponent team and change their lineup, it won't be accurate anymore. You can always just enter the password and play that if you so choose. CGB support is not implemented yet. The colorized screenshots were taken with a custom palette. Try setting it yourself, it's mentioned in the demo video.

I don't plan on it, unfortunately. I like the Tecmo games a lot more, so my priorities will probably go to Captain Tsubasa Sega CD for now, and the rest as I get to them (or if CD proves too difficult).

If you are ever going to translate that game, good luck. It has Japanese cutscenes that need to be subtitled, or if you can put up a group of voice actors, those can be dubbed (but it's most unlikely).

I know, the cutscenes are definitely going to be a stretch goal, and the game itself will take a really long time. Right now I'm only aiming for basic stuff like commands and game dialogue to get the game at least playable, and I'm currently in the process of reverse engineering the text. Once I'm done with the entire game, that's probably when I'll start on the cutscenes, probably gonna need to get the help of the community or even hire some people to help. I'd personally prefer just translating the dialogue and figuring out how to write a subtitle routine for the game, but voice acting it isn't out of the picture.

I can give some tips for the translation: Look for the help of a Japanese to English translator who's familiar with the Captain Tsubasa series in general. They must have a good understanding of Japanese to translate the dialogues. Be sure to also ask for someone to test the translation on real hardware. This is a Japanese Mega-CD game, and thus won't work on American Sega CD or European Mega-CD units. For subtitles, I would recommend you to take a look at Supper's PC-Engine CD translation patches, which use a subtitling method for cutscenes and vocal songs. One example is from Galaxy Fraulein Yuna 2 for that console, which is pictured here. You can try to adapt it for your translation, as it's running on a different CD based console.
