Zero The Kamikaze Squirrel is a spin-off to the Aero The Acro-Bat series and is a late action platformer that released in Europe and the USA on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, despite the game’s culture, it never saw a release on the Japanese Mega Drive.
STORY:
During the events of Aero the Acro-Bat 2, Zero receives a telegram from his girlfriend Amy telling him that an evil lumberjack named Jacques Le Sheets is deforesting their homeland Stony Forest to produce counterfeit money and has also captured her father. Ignoring Edgar Ektor’s protests, Zero decides to put a stop to Le Sheets. Upon arriving at the island, Zero’s plane is shot down and crashes on the beach, so he starts making his way to the forest on foot. During his journey, Zero learns that Amy has also been captured after an unsuccessful attempt to save her father by herself. At the paper factory, Zero fights Le Sheets and pursues him on a flying ship. Aboard the ship, Zero finds that the mastermind is none other than Edgar Ektor. After defeating Ektor with Amy’s assistance, the two squirrels parachute safely away, while Ektor’s ship crashes into a cliff.
This patch makes the game a lot easier than the retail original. The original retail version had an annoying gimmick that had to be learned in order to progress through the game called the ”Flic Flac Super Dive” in which Zero has to dive down deep falls and then turn and glide straight up a nearby steep cliff or mountain to reach the top, the technique often leads to button mashing and eventually the player is likely to give up and turn the game off out of frustration and put something like Sonic on, so here in this patch, the flic/flac super dive technique is no longer needed and is instead replaced with a simple infinite jump that allows Zero to reach higher ground at ease. You also have a neat stage select option as well as an infinite amount of lives and shurikens to help entice you into playing this game.
God Mode’s original release of this hack was only available for the NTSC 60Hz USA Genesis but in this patch, the regional lockout has been removed entirely making the game region free so anybody on any setting with any preference can play the game and it also works on the Japanese NTSC Mega drive setting for the first time.
The game has it’s way of growing on you after a few plays and can become quite fun.
