Please update to version 1.1! This fixes all of the broken dialogue scripting.
This is a hack (of the 2009 hack of the 2000 translation of the game) designed to make “Tenchi Muyo!: The Game” easier to get into for people coming to it from the dub of the ’90s TV show (which I am aware it is not based on), like myself. As such, it makes the following changes:
- All voice lines are silenced, except for the Banpresto logo’s
- All honorifics are removed
- The few instances of people talking in the third person are changed
- Ryo-Ohki now says “meow” instead of “mya(n)”, along with having the second “o” in her name capitalized
- “Aeka” is renamed to “Ayeka” (except during some messages for space reasons)
- “Yukinojou” is renamed to “Yukinojo”, and some enemies lose their “u”s to match
- To fit in the above, some lines were slightly altered; see “tenchiStrings.txt” for the changes
I’d really like to thank borderLine and especially LNF Translations for the work this is based on, the emulator Mesen2 for its great debugging features, and everyone who’s documented the SNES and the SPC700 inside of it over the years.
Apply this patch to a clean, unheadered Japanese ROM.
PS: As part of the process for making this hack, I created a dialogue editing tool and a voice removal tool, which can be found at https://opiter-projects.neocities.org/Tenchi-Game-Dialogue-Editor.zip and https://opiter-projects.neocities.org/Tenchi-Game-Voice-Remover.zip, respectively.
