The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey & Minnie, is an action platformer developed and published by Capcom and was released for the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis in 1994 only in USA and Japan leaving PAL regions to get the short end of the stick again. I personally hate it when game developers and publishers block their games from running in PAL 50Hz mode, especially when they don’t bother to make a dedicated PAL version for the PAL regions and that was the motivation for this hack.

I took the USA ROM of this game and made it region free in order for it to be played on a PAL Mega Drive running at 50Hz. In the past the only way to play this on a PAL system was to either have a game genie region free code by using a game genie or a pro action replay cart or use a Mega key adapter, on real hardware both options require you to import the original cartridge from USA. These can be very expensive options, but with this ROM hack you don’t need any of that, just download the game into your EverDrive flash cart and the game will play or you can boot it up in any region of your choice on an emulator as it still functions like normal for USA and Japan. No region is left out. The ROM is now identified as a (World) ROM.

The game features Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse trying to figure out why everyone in the circus has disappeared, and includes four different outfits and six different levels.

STORY:

Mickey and Minnie Mouse travel by bus to the circus at the edge of town where they are going to spend the day. When the bus arrives, a little late, Goofy appears and tells Mickey and Minnie that everyone in the circus tents has disappeared. Mickey and Minnie are surprised by Goofy’s claim, but choose to go to the circus and see it with their own eyes. At the circus they realise that their friends Pluto and Donald are gone. Mickey and Minnie must now find out what is going on at the circus.

INSTRUCTIONS: 

Inside the ZIP file you’ll find the IPS patch, it is in Lunar IPS format and simply needs to be patched to the USA version of ”The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey & Minnie”.

NOTES:

1. There is no slow music when playing it in PAL 50Hz, music is normal.

2. Checksum is fixed.

3. ROM hack is fully compatible with outside Game Genie and Pro Action Replay codes on top of it (if you wish).

4. ROM header has been updated with new date and my name in it.

5. No PAL version of the game was ever officially released, however it was scheduled for Australia in April 1995.

6. Pirate reproduction cart makers should use this ROM going forward when making cheap repros of this game as it’s region free and can be played anywhere on any Mega Drive/Genesis system. You have my permission. If I ever buy this game, I want this ROM hack on the cartridge.
