When it comes to sound effects, Puyo Pop for the Game Boy Advance (also known by its Japanese name, Minna de Puyo Puyo) is a bit lacking.
Some sounds that you hear commonly in other Puyo Puyo games (such as the garbage Puyo landing on the board) are never played during gameplay, despite the fact that they can be heard in the game’s gallery option. Additionally, unlike other Puyo Puyo games, there’s no match lost sound present in the game at all (not even as an unused sound). As such, the current music track just keeps playing after a match is lost.
To make gameplay feel closer to other Puyo Puyo games soundwise, this hack readds these missing sound effects back into gameplay. Additionally, the match lost sound from Puyo Puyo / Puyo Puyo Tsu has been recreated and added into the game. There’s also a few extra changes and fixes, like the game’s PCM sound driver being modified to fix some audio popping issues.
This hack is compatible with all main versions of the game (Japan, USA and Europe). A couple of optional patches are also available to customize one of the game’s sound effects.
