Description

In 2004, SEGA released Puyo Pop Fever for Microsoft Windows in Japan, with subsequent updates also being released until 2008. While this version it's mostly identical to the Dreamcast port content-wise (besides the addition of an online battle mode), one notable change was the removal of the language options, which means that the game can only be played with Japanese text, graphics and voices.

Years later, users from Puyo Nexus discovered that this version still had full support for an English language mode: Not only were the English text scripts and graphics still in the files, but the variables for enabling them could still activated, albeit via modified save files. Additionally, while not included in any release of the Windows port, the game had support for a folder specifically for all the English dub's voices, along with a variable for using them in the game.

Unfortunately, reenabling any of the English language options revealed a major bug in the game's cutscenes: Almost every dialogue would get skipped instantly, making the text hard to read in full and causing the characters' voices to get cut off constantly. While a workaround patch would later be released in Puyo Nexus, it wasn't a perfect solution, as it still contained some bugs.

Based on previous research from Puyo Nexus and lots of code tracing with CheatEngine, this mod fixes all the dialogue skipping issues in the cutscenes. Additionally, the language select menu from the Dreamcast port has been restored, allowing the text and voice language options to be changed from the game's options screen.

Please note that: • This mod only supports the game versions that are internally named 1.05, 1.120 and 2.000, and may not work in other versions. • This mod doesn't come with the English dub's voice files, which you'll have to obtain from somewhere else.

For more information, please check the READ ME file. As a bonus, a text file explaining all the code changes done in this mod has been included.

Thanks! If I hadn't told you before, this mod would still be exclusive to the Original Japanese launcher. Another thing I want to say is that someone should publish Eddebaby's English PPF Launcher on the Internet Archive, since this English launcher is very hidden, especially if you search for it on Google; only the Original Japanese PPF 2.0 Launcher will appear. This means nobody knows it exists. I'm going to try to make Eddebaby's English PPF Launcher public, although I can't guarantee I'll succeed, Well, that's all I have to say, I repeat, thank you!

Hello! Yes, I made the patch based on the game version that comes with the original Japanese launcher. I honestly wasn't aware that there was an alternate English launcher made by the Puyo community. I'll try to make a patch for this version in a couple of days. EDIT: Updated my mod to version 1.1, which now adds support for versions 1.05 and 2.000 of the Windows port. Note that the version I used in my mod's first release was actually called version 1.120 internally. In the case of eddebaby's english PPF launcher, the game version it uses its called version 2.000 internally, so make sure to use the corresponding patch.

Hi Mister Man, I found the English version of the PPF Launcher, made by eddebaby on Puyo Nexus. That version also uses PPF version 2.0, but unfortunately, the patch that restores English support doesn't work on that version. So you can do it for that version as well. Here's the link to the English version of the Launcher. I think you used the original Japanese launcher because you couldn't find this one, so I was able to find it. The English version is easier to customize and launch the game more easily, while with the original Japanese version, you always have to skip the login menu.
