Large Levels Tech Demo is a ROM hack of Sonic the Hedgehog for the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis. This ROM hack is a technical showcase of an enhanced engine, sporting changes that significantly increase the maximum level size of a Sonic 1 level. The singular level featured here, in fact, is 6 times the size of the biggest level that can be crafted within Sonic 1, under no engine-level modifications!
The hack features, among other things, an expanded moveset, including the following:
- The Spin Dash, from Sonic 2, which works the same as usual;
- The Drop Dash, from Sonic Mania, which was enhanced to allow the start of a new charge after one has been interrupted;
- The Super Peel-Out, from Sonic CD, now enhanced with the chance to release it at any given time.
In addition, you’ll find an experimental variation of the Extended Camera from Sonic CD, with the difference being that the camera will gradually reveal more of the level the faster you go.
To play Large Levels Tech Demo, you must apply the provided BPS patch on an unmodified Sonic the Hedgehog REV01 ROM. If you have purchased the Sonic 1 ROM from Steam prior to its delisting, that will work just fine.
