Here I have a 10 track demo of my upcoming hack called F-Zero: The F-MAX Revival. Premise and track location bios will be in the next post of the thread.
There is an MSU-1 supported version and a non-MSU-1 supported version. Don’t use the MSU-1 version if your emulator/system doesn’t support it.
Things to note:
This hack runs X/GX style boosting. You can boost as much as you want after the first lap, but watch your health meter! Fox and Falcon fans, this may give you a lot more power to keep up with that pesky Stingray! Also, don’t worry about power down affecting your top speed here, but.. you may want to worry about exploding if you get to that point.
There are two leagues, the Alpha League and the Gamma League. In the final release, these leagues will very much likely change what tracks they have. Gamma League is SIGNIFICANTLY HARDER than Alpha League.
Known Issues
If running the MSU-1 version, songs that don’t have MSU-1 support will skip (i.e. title screen, results, or if your emulator doesn’t support MSU-1)
Some of the horizon graphics aren’t completed, including Sunset Drive and Megalopolis.
Track backgrounds and horizons are finished enough to look okay but will likely be improved upon in future builds.
The final track might be a bit aggressive with UFO pickups if you try to cut too much on a jump. Still trying to figure out how to implement that so you don’t get penalized for something you shouldn’t be all while not breaking AI pathing.
Future Plans
More tracks. Current goal is 20-25 tracks, but this may change.
More venues.
Mirror versions of the tracks with slight changes to them.
A game manual.
Who knows what else?
Lunar IPS is the usual go-to tool for patching your F-Zero ROM. If running the MSU-1 version, make sure all of the extra files included are in the same folder as your patched ROM.

Premise
In Mighty Gazelle’s bio, we learn he was a driver for F-MAX, which was the racing circuit that predated F-ZERO. The board has decided to re-open some of the tracks from F-MAX to challenge the newer generation of F-ZERO pilots to new challenges and venues! Some of the venues included are…
Mute Oldtown – This location is what started it all. In the heart of the original center of Mutant City, later known as Mute City, the graduation from F-1 to F-MAX began and one of the first tracks high above the city was created. Now that the heart of the city has shifted, this section of the growing metropolis has been nicknamed oldtown and the track has been subject to aging and disrepair. Chunks of metal scrap from older wrecked F-MAX ships can be found in some of the corners, and the weather has demagnetized some segments of track.
Sunset Drive – A computer simulation inspired by an old nearly forgotten era that only seems to have lived on in electronic music, Sunset Drive was a track designed to train F-1 racers to prepare for the speeds and the jumps in the new F-MAX circuit.
Blackout – A planet with an atmosphere so thick that no light can penetrate, this venue only seemed to last for one full circuit before the board opted to never host another race here. Deemed too dangerous, only the most crazed thrill seekers ever dare to drive on this track, and very rarely do they risk driving at more than 200-250km/h.
Shifting Sands – This venue was one of the earlier F-MAX tracks, and was renovated just for this F-MAX revival. The track is so close to the ground that sometimes the sands will flow onto the track, affecting the vehicles. The reason why this track was retired was the maintenance cost to keep the tracks held together despite the sandflow was just unreasonable for the long term and later on they decided to build the tracks a little higher in a more calm section of the planet now known as Sand Ocean.
Mercury Sea – This planet, known as the “silver spot”, is completely covered in a sea of mercury. Due to some asteroids in the area crashing into the sea, in some places the mercury has known to react and crystallize into giant blue pyramids and emit some poisonous purple gas. Due to the safety precautions needed to prevent vehicles getting damaged by the hostile atmosphere and the steps needed to be taken to prevent pilots from dying by simply being at this venue, racing here has been halted except for on the most special of occasions.
Megalopolis – This city never boasted a real F-MAX track, but F-MAX enthusiasts built one. Racing here is technically illegal, but under the guise of night the authorities tend to turn a blind eye. Since it can only be raced in very dark conditions, some barriers have been replaced with lamps to alert drivers of hazards, hairpins, and landing zones.
