Many years ago, I released a hack of the Game Boy version of Dr. Mario titled “Dr. Brimley”. In it, the good doctor fought dancing foods instead of viruses such as a pie or a twerking ice cream cone.
Now, as a Christmas gift to the world, I present: Dr. Brimley NES Remaster!
Graphical changes:
The viruses are once again dancing foods, this time in the form of a lollipop, a can of soda, and a snack cake! When a food’s sugars are defeated they momentarily turn into their real life counterparts before dying.
The pop lines animation when a food dies now uses pieces of the unused death animation graphics found in rom in order to look more like an explosion effect.
New cutscene graphics, most of which are Wilford Brimley references. See if you can spot them all!
The bottle-shaped playing field graphics have been redone into a stomach to better fit the “fighting foods” theme.
A snazzy new font!
Palette changes across the board with emphasis on being easier on the eyes. Darker background colors are used during gameplay so it’s easier to focus on the action!
This hack also utilizes various gameplay tweaks and bug fixes created by the Dr. Mario community to help give a better playing experience! Specific patches and their authors are listed below in the credits section.
