Description

Bio-Hazard Battle (Prototype) Modem Mode Patch

The prototype version of Bio-Hazard Battle includes a modem mode, with all the original code intact. Originally, the game communicated through the Genesis/Mega Drive Model 1's 3rd controller port (EXT port), where a 1200-baud modem would typically connect.

This patch redirects the game's communication to the 2nd controller port, enabling two consoles to link together for networked play. Instead of the original 1200-baud modem, the patch uses a serial link cable and increases the baud rate from 1200 to 4800 (max speed the genesis can communicate at).

Connection Instructions:

  1. Cable Setup:

    • Connect a serial cable between controller port 2 on each console. Please note the 'Zero Tolerance' link cable does not work and is wired much differently from a serial cable setup.

    • Wire the following pins:

      • TX (Pin 6) -> RX (Pin 9) (on the other console)

      • RX (Pin 9) -> TX (Pin 6) (on the other console)

      • Ground (Pin 8) -> Ground (Pin 8)

  2. In-Game Instructions:

    • Both players should navigate to the "Modem Start" menu.

    • Both players must be on the "Press Key to org" screen

    • When prompted with the message: "Press key to org", one player presses a button to initiate the connection, followed by the other player which should start the match and put both players into the ship select screen.
