Based on Streets of Rage 2: Syndicate Wars by Red Crimson and gsaurus, Puyo Wars is an experimental ROM Hack where all the characters (not counting Vehelits) are replaced with characters from the Madou Monogatari and Puyo Puyo series. It was first released in December of 2014.
Original Description:
Here’s an idea I’ve been thinking about: Streets of Rage 2 with Puyo Puyo and Madou Monogatari characters. In the Streets of Rage, the Puyo Puyo characters possess abilities that they never had before. Be careful, for it’s harder than regular Streets of Rage 2.
This hack uses Streets of Rage 2: Syndicate Wars (revision 0.9) as a base. Syndicate Wars is an advanced hack of SOR2 by Red Crimson that lets you play as any enemy in the game as well as Adam, in addition to the playable characters. It also adds a Survival Mode. All enemies’ graphics have been converted from compressed to uncompressed, so you can customize their graphics as you please.
There are some character choices that I’m not too happy with. What is Randar? Well, he’s a Compile character who never actually appeared in a Puyo or Madou game, as far as I know. Given my limited supply of sprites and lack of artistic ability, I tried the best I could.
