Report / Claim Ownership

A week following its debut on Romhack Plaza, the Aflame mod of Dragon Quest VI is now eligible for a parallel event alongside the Whirlwind Four-Job Fiesta (FJF), named after the Whirlwind mod of Final Fantasy V.  The event will run from June 1 to August 31.

For use with the NoPrgress translation, the Aflame mod touts the following core features in its development branch.

  • Change vocations anywhere.  Advanced vocations unlocked to start.
  • Chest items and enemies randomized.  Randomization can be toggled for a save file.
  • No random encounters.  Hold B to get random encounters (even during vanilla events that have no encounters).
  • Gained experience and gold each boosted to 64x.  Vocation battles boosted to 32x with level restrictions removed.
  • Certain key items granted to start, such as Reigns of Pegasus (usable without Peggy Su).
  • Dark World, including Deathtamoor’s castle, accessible from the start.
  • Supports manual and auto seeding, including saving and loading hack state.
  • Fixes various translation bugs, including softlocks when canceling out of certain menus.

Although the development branch remains a private hack, as part of the event festivities, eligible players in the event can gain private access to the mod’s latest build by afterward submitting a playthrough of the mod, which has a run estimate of five hours (compared to Whirlwind’s two hours).  The event even has different divisions catering to how competitively players wish to play, so there’s something for everyone.

DQ fans should also check out Pegazaru Version, a long-awaited project that aims to substantially improve upon the work of the NoPrgress fan translation of DQVI (and coincidentally, a project that is by a co-author of another randomizer of FFV).  We look forward to seeing the success of both DQ projects.

Sign-ups for the event are taken via FFV Central’s community Discord server.  Spots are available to eligible players on a first-come, first-serve basis, so hope to see players there!
