Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog (aka Tails in Sonic 1), is a hack of Sonic The Hedgehog for the Sega Mega Drive by Drx and Puto featuring Tails as a playable character instead of Sonic. Tails can fly, spin dash and swim in the same way that he can in Sonic 3.

Other Buggy Versions To Avoid:

On the 8th of June, 2007, Puto released an update to Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog, which featured several improvements over the original hack: Bug fixes, a corrected palette, and Sonic 2-styled tired and swimming sprites. More bug fixes have been released since, and on 31/12/07, he released version 2.0, completely rewritten from scratch. Version 2.1 was released on 09/10/08 to no fanfare; its purpose was to fix some differences in Tails’ flight behaviour, making it 100% identical to the flight behaviour used in Sonic 3. Version 2.1.1 was released on the next day to fix one more bug, but it ended up raping our ears with the worst audio the Mega Drive/Genesis can do! Due to an audio bug that was never fixed.

So keep away from the final 2.1.1. By Puto. This is the version that most people download from the ”Tails In Sonic 1” wiki page from Sonic Retro thinking it’s a complete and finished version only to have their ears raped by robot farts and other corrupted sound fx and instruments.

Notes: This version uploaded on this page is the v2.0 (aka V5) which does not have corrupted audio when playing it back on an original Sega Mega Drive/Genesis model 1 console. It plays perfectly from start to finish with no hiccups or weird surprises and the music and sound fx are normal.

Less fancy than Asuharamoon’s ”Tails In Sonic 1” hack from 2018 and the official mobile ports that let you play as Tails in Sonic 1. This is just a standard working version for those that love playing Sonic games on original hardware.
