Sonic 1 Neo Adventures V0.1

Sonic 1 Neo Adventures is a Sonic ROM hack from 2008 that features custom made maps, level layouts, custom colour palettes and different music.

This ROM hack was found by fellow Youtuber ''Sonic 4ev3r'' who dug deep into the history of Sonic Stuff Research Group (SSRG) and found the MediaFire repository. If it wasn't for Sonic 4ev3r, this ROM hack and especially this rare build would have been lost to time so it will be archived here for safe keeping.

''Yeah I know I already played this hack a while back but that was version 0.2 which is the most prevalent build of this hack and one that I've seen people do. HOWEVER, I recently did some digging around MediaFire and found this build which is EVEN older. Both builds come from 2009 and feature new music from other games as well as a rework in palettes and level design. V0.2 features ONLY Sonic 3 & Knuckles music whereas this build has music from Sonic 2, 3&K, 3D Blast And yeah I just thought I'd do a walkthrough of this version because I have a fear that this build is gonna get lost to time as it's very hard to find unless you dug deep into the "Does anyone have X ROM Hack" Sega Stuff Research Group forum where I was then taken into a MediaFire repository, thus finding this hack!''

FEATURES:

• New level layouts and maps.

• Custom colour palettes for all the zones.

• Each act has different colours.

• Custom playlist of music tracks.

• Some badniks have new art.

• One of the Special Stages is brand new.

• A somewhat Sonic 3 sprite with spindash.

NOTES:

V0.1 is actually more stable than the more common V0.2 and this build seems to be heavily influenced by ''Sonic Megamix'' (which was released a year earlier in 2007). The playlist featured in this build copies 75% of it's soundtrack from Sonic Megamix and the level contents also heavily borow from Sonic Megamix. Despite having heavier level content such as more rings, item boxes and badniks laid around the joint, the custom level layouts on offer here are still inferior to that of Sonic Megamix.

A lot of these Sonic ROM hacks from 2009 tried to capitalise on the success of Sonic Megamix from Stealth and Team Megamix but ultimately fell short in one way or another.

Sadly the music is unoptimised for PAL 50Hz but it's the very first build of the game and in the next build which is far more easier to find V0.2, the sound engine was changed to Sonic 3's and featured Sonic 3 & Knuckles tracks as the playlist and that was optimised for 50Hz.

V0.2 is more buggy than V0.1 with an annoying bug where Sonic automatically loses all his rings when he jumps on the canister to free the animals in every third act. This bug doesn't appear here in V0.1.

This game has no level select cheat on the title screen.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Inside the ZIP file you'll find the IPS patch, it is in Lunar IPS format and simply needs to be patched to the Sonic 1 USA/Europe retail ROM. Happy Gaming!
