Sonic 1 Alternative Universe is a Sonic 1 hack that changes the graphics, colour palettes, level layouts, music and other things. There is a lot to see here and all the changes come in different versions.

STORY:

Using radar, Dr. Robotnik discovers that chaos emeralds are on a mystical island. Then he manages to gather them and use their powers to create neo energy, a new source of energy for his machines. After that, Dr. Robotnik dominates the mystical island, and begins his plans to take over the world. Sonic discovers the evil scientist’s plans, and sets out on another adventure. Now he must stop the villain’s plans, and recover the emeralds from chaos, to restore the mystical island with their power.

FEATURES: 

• New and recycled art and graphics.
• Different colour palettes.
• Different music ported from other games.
• Badniks have different art.
• Robotnik monitors are in the game.
• Spindash is added.
• Sonic 2 cheat screen added when cheat is entered on the title screen.

NOTES:

There are 3 patches inside the ZIP folder of different versions of the same game. There is v3.5, a v4.0 and one with no version number added to it which may be an earlier version or a later one.

V3.5 Has the least amount of changes and plays more like your standard Sonic 1 hack, it does have different tunes, different colours and a few new layouts.

4.0 Has new art and graphics with some new level layouts, but some zones retain their original level layouts. Music tracks have been changed in this one from the other two versions.

The last one here without a version number is assumed to be an earlier version of 4.0 that has different art, graphics, level layouts and music from the other two versions. Interestingly it has Azure Lake Zone in full screen.

There is even another version floating around making 4 versions in total although haven’t yet got access to that one. Not sure which one is the final? But 3 of the 4 are here to check out and deserve a place to be archived.

When entering the cheat on the title screen, if you suddenly get a black screen, just press B or C and the cheat screen will display.

INSTRUCTION:

Inside the ZIP file, you’ll find 3 patches to 3 different versions of the same game. All 3 must be patched to the (European/USA) version of Sonic 1.

DISCLAIMER:

I (Adrian Gauna) want to make this clear incase it gets locked or taken down. I do not own this ROM hack patch, I am merely sharing it with the community for fear of it getting lost to time that’s all. The information online states that Adriano Mendes made the edits and was the main modder, if this is untrue and there are other people involved can you please kindly let me know instead of requesting a sudden take down so I can edit the changes? I don’t appreciate sudden take downs without anyone telling me why.
