Hi There! I'm a relative newcomer to the forums but got interested looking into trying my hand at Fan Translating a Japanese PSX/PS1 game called Brightis.
Brightis is a PS1/PSX game from 1999 by Shade/Quintet.
The game is primarily Japanese, but has character sets for English in game.
It's an action RPG, so not much dialogue total.
Essentially, I've assembled a small group since my skills are hitting their limit here. We've gotten a few people willing to help in their spare time, but we've run into challenges. We're currently at the point of figuring out how the games pointers work, and looking into how to implement a change to font width.
I am aware that another group, Transgen Translation, was supposedly working on a translation of some kind but all my research about the group hasn't turned up more than a Twitter post and some Discord Server that I can't find.
Files are primarily stored in .BIN, except for the two .STR video files, the .EXE, the SYSTEM.CNF, and a SCPS_101.05 file that appears to store some data and all of the character data towards the bottom of it.
I've determined the game is Shift-JIS encoded, and we've dumped about 90% of the games text [about 5000 lines, some repeated due to how the game calls text]. We need some help in getting the pointers figured out though.
We've also begun looking in earnest through the game executable in Ghidra to determine how the font width is set, so we can hopefully make changes to it when the time for text reinsertion comes.
Thus, I'm looking to anyone who would be willing to work with me on getting the translation progressed.
If you're open to helping, replying here, or PM'ing me is good, and we can go from there. Thanks for reading.
