Get Mesen here or Development Build

Find Mesen HDpacks

Official NES Documentation

Well there is a lot to share or make tutorials on with this emulator. But I had like to get a discussion going around this tool. Since the debugger is a essential tool to understand when getting into the meat of romhacking NES SNES PC-Engine.. games.

Sure it is not the only tool but the one I would consider to look at first since it does such a great job explaining a system while you are doing things.

I did just see that the development build has a GBA emulator but I have not tested that emulator a lot. I had a bug with the old one that is been fixed.. really had liked to get into some PC-Engine stuff too and did not get around to it yet.

One of my favorite features you do not find in any other debugger is the event viewer. Could anyone even imagine a other tool that makes the whole thing even better? Beside auto-Diz2FastRom-Integration..

bogaa The event viewer, the watch window, the amazing debugger, the tile/palette/sprite viewers...its just a godly tool!

This emulator has a wonderful debugger and is highly recommended for hacking NES and SNES games.

One day I had like to do a video/shorts series to show off some debugging tech. Like the stuff you repeat way to many times when talking to newcomers. If you present tech right it is also entertaining.. just too bad I suck at it. Have a lot of ideas though and should push myself more I think..

I recommend the emulator also for casual player.. not only NES-HDpacks. The gaming experience is excellent!
There is a Luascript that comes with the emulator that totally refreshes the experience with screen-mirror-script. Or if you try to ware down the D-Pad buttons more evenly..

I like this debugger as well. The cycle counter in the trace logger and the lag counter in "settings/preferences/advanced" are useful features to optimize the asm in snes games. Could probably be useful for other systems as well but I have only tested on the snes.
