About Sonic 1 – Under Neat (Genesis) Romhack

Yeah uh, this is just Sonic 1 in Sonic 3 SCE with palette swaps and mediocre music ports. It's pretty bizarre to see you praise this hack so much in the description when 99% of it wasn't made by Mildanner.

Well Mildanner was credited as the main author. So who was the main modder then? And so what if it's praised highly by myself?

I assume you haven't heard of Sonic Clean Engine yet (despite it being mentioned in the description). See here: https://github.com/TheBlad768/Sonic-1-in-Sonic-3-S.C.E.-
I understand now, that engine is not allowed for commerical use and the terms of use were violated plus everything else was stolen apparently. The hack has a troubled history I only just learned about now. I don't wanna support anything that's stolen or going to cause trouble. As I just told moderator Kandowantu, that in a lot of these situations i'm merely the amplifier between the hack and the outside community when the hack is not one of my own and despite my research on these hacks before posting, the drama and troubled history side of some of these Sonic hacks is not made public so i'm not aware of it, if it was I never would have uploaded it. I was lied to and given false information.

I knew it was a Sonic Clean Engine of Sonic 3 but I had no idea of the violated commerical use of it as well as the other stuff that was used and stolen without permission.

I understand why it had to be removed now and support the reason. The part I don't like is being left in the lurch when one of the entries uploaded suddenly gets taken down with no reason added as to why. I had to ask staff for the reason multiple users requested it to be removed as I honestly thought it was me the sharer and thought I was heading for a ban.

At least on something like Youtube when a video is flagged for copyright or a violation of the terms of use is recorded, there is a section you can find that tells you the name of the claimant or offender with the reason why as well as the particular part in the video where the offending copyright material is located.

Sorry to say this, it is very scrapped. I'm not having any level design skills, plus... These are cancelled and will never go anywhere from what I say, Under Neat is very of my mistake.

We did not create Sonic and we also use other people's disassemblies from like the classic games, for Modern 2D and 3D feels. We use Sonic Mania or RSDK.

I don't know...

Some advice I could give is to verify your sources, and for Mildanner specifically... put more effort into your ROM hacks and don't steal content from other hacks without permission or claim credit for engine development that isn't your own.

Ok, because my ROM Hacks weren't my goal and I don't know importing custom chunks. I lack of level design, but there's tutorial about doing it I guess. Following the simple tile edits and 128x128 art edit but in Genesis.

You don't need to know how to import custom made engines from other people, just use the base Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 engines like all newbies do. For level layout editing you can use this https://info.sonicretro.org/SCHG:SonLVL_Manual/Layout_Editing SonLVL is free to use to the public and a good way to learn how to edit the levels. I should do this myself and make my own hack but i'm lazy and I have a busy life with a wife and two small kids to look after, i'd rather just play what the community puts out to the public. Gavin is like a little puppy and will jump at any chance to do the colour palettes for you so you won't have to bother with that. Then you've basically made a decent, standard Sonic hack and I guarentee you, if it's made into a public ROM bin file, you can bet that AmyRoseLongplays, Razor Zenon, DDAS and Jaypin88 will find it and make videos on it. Whatever you decide to do, don't steal anything, just use public domain tools and the basic Sonic engines from the original games.

Sonic Clean Engine is in the public domain and all you have to do is give credit to those who did the work of making the engine.

1. There's nothing wrong with Gavin and his colour mods, i've even uploaded a few to the Plaza myself (with his permission). I only recommended him because he can make it easier for Mildanner as Mildanner would have less work to do. Wrong. Gavin is not a red flag.

2. Those youtube content creators go looking for anything they can find to upload videos and make revenue, from the really great Sonic hacks to the really poor ones so no red flag here either.

3. Last I looked, the Sonic Clean Engine wasn't allowed to be used for public and commercial use, only for private projects but I could be wrong on this one?

To Mildanner: Even if it is, I recommend not using the Clean Engine again, it's what got you into trouble.

. There's nothing wrong with Gavin and his colour mods,
Not if seeing your work vandalized and not being asked for permission for that makes you happy.

I don't know where you got the Clean Engine, but the official GitHub repository only says that you can't sell a game made with the engine...Which is very different from the public not being able to use it.

Yeah, as someone who makes romhacks: It really doesnt help, edits must be done on the source code so the next versions of the hack have the fixes applied, more efficient and works better at the long term.

EDIT: Unless the hack is finished and the final build haves issues with no intention of the creator to fix it, in that scenario yeah, I think fan-made fixes are actually pretty good :P (Pointing the issues would be really useful tho in case the developer wants to fix it)

Gavin is not perfect and I have told him in the past to stop recolouring other ROM hacks and to just recolour the originals, but in this case it isn't his fault. Gavin just like me did not know ''Sonic 1 Under Neat'' was stolen and he asked Mildanner first before doing the recolours until we all found out that it was stolen so I think you're being a bit too hard on him.

I have nothing to do with this Clean Engine thing myself? I also supported the decision for it to be removed once the moderator told me what was really going on. The stolen ROM hack is still circulating on youtube with ''Mildanner'' as the author so I suggest you get your mates like Selbi and Darkex and others to shut the links down over there too. Telling me how much you disapprove of Gavin will make no difference what soever.

Did you know?...I give up

Saying obvious and verifiable things with a little reading is not getting anywhere here.

Do what you want, I don't care... I'm just warning you that you're getting a bad reputation.

I never distribute other people's work as my own, I don't know selling stuff like ROM Hacks or doing even commissions.
